The Investment Agriculture Foundation of B.C. (IAF) is now seeking nominations for the second annual IAF Award of Excellence for Innovation in Agriculture and Agri-Food. This award celebrates innovative ideas, projects or programs that deliver economic, environmental or social benefits to the B.C. agriculture and agri-food industries.
"The Investment Agriculture Foundation's business is to support innovative ideas and projects that promote a globally competitive and sustainable agriculture and agri-food industry," said Stuart Wilson, IAF chair. "This award allows us to celebrate innovation and recognize the innovators who make it happen."
Last year's recipients, Moose Meadows Farm and the Quesnel Community Economic Development Corporation (QCEDC), were honoured for their roles in the development of the emerging B.C. birch sap and syrup industry.
Heloise Warren-Dixon, a registered professional forester who accepted the award on behalf of the joint recipients, authored Canada's first birch syrup production manual and organized a series of training workshops.
Nominations close November 30, 2008. The award is open to residents of B.C. and Canadian-based organizations and businesses operating in B.C.
More information and nomination forms are available at www.iafbc.ca.
The recipient will be announced in February 2009 at the Agri-Food Industry Gala.
The Investment Agriculture Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that manages and distributes federal and provincial funds in support of innovative projects to benefit the agriculture and food industries in British Columbia.
